Elvis
FANtasy Fest weekend comes to a close

The
festival held at Woodland Park Community Centre in Portage
is a production of Elvis Presley Enterprises, the Porter
County Convention and Visiter Centre and the Taking
Care Of Presley Memorial Benefit Committee. Last year
the festival raised more than $12,000 and the funds
go toward scholarships for Special Olympians. These
events which It was all in aid of the Special Olympics.
These events which include sports from bowling to volleyball
also include oportunities to achieve degrees through
the Athlete Leadership program. Festival chairwoman
Kay Lipps said that more than half of those attending
and performing are from other states.
Louis
Rockafella was on hand as a special guest from England.
UK's number one Elvis impersonator played his idol in
last years BBC 1 documentary called "There's Only
One Elvis". He appeared earlier this year at the
opening of an exhibition in Liverpool called "The
Fingerprints Of Elvis" billed as the only major
exhibition on the music legend outside the U.S. "There's
a very special connection between Elvis performers and
Special Olympians," said Rockafella who first appeared
in Portage's event two years ago. Lipps explained "Elvis
had several charities when he was alive. He gave wherever
there was a need. And his memory lives on in the impersonators."
