Al Dvorin

Our condolences to the family and friends Al Dvorin

ALDvorin.jpg

As you may have already heard the sad, and shocking news, Al Dvorin, the concert announcer who made famous the phrase "Elvis has left the building," was killed in an car accident Sunday 22nd August en route to Las Vegas. Ed Bonja who was driving the car survived the accident. A former bandleader, and talent agent in Chicago, Al was with Elvis from his early days as a performer, and was on Elvis' last tour in 1977.

Louis and I where lucky enough to have the pleasure of meeting Al in Portage, Chicago USA in 2001. What a wonderful man he was. His stories of his times with Elvis where facinating and and both us us sat and talked with Al for hours. He also enjoyed telling us about his trips to north of England and how he liked fish and chips! Many months later after we had returned to England, we had a surprise message left on our answer phone. Al just called to say hi, and that he hadn't forgotten us and asked if we where anywhere near Denmark as he was over there at the time! We were amazed that such a great man, had kept our telephone number and had gone out of his way to give us a call. Since then we kept in touch. It is very sad news and very upsetting to hear of his tragic death. Our thoughts and sympathy go out to all of Al's family and friends and to Al, thank you for your kindness and great memories. May you rest in peace. Janet and Louis Rockafella.

On Monday July 5th 2004, Louis Rockafella, award winning Elvis Impersonator from Southport was at the HMV store in Oxford Street, London to launch the latest release of Elvis Presley "That's All Right (Mama)". A special limited edition 10" vinyl record of this single has been released and is exclusive to HMV. The single also available on CD is expected to enter the Top Ten chart on Sunday 11th July.

Louis known as "The Spirit of Elvis" was chosen by BMG and HMV to launch the single as the store opened for business at 8am Monday morning. Louis performed Elvis hits and entertained customers who flocked into the store grabbing handfuls of the limited edition of the record.

Laura from HMV PR company Coalition said "Louis was absolutely fabulous! Brilliant! Without Louis - there would have been no launch day for The King! ".

Later, a surprise presentation was made by Richard Orr, of BMG, who presented Louis with a very special Award, a 24k gold framed edition of the 10" single for his help with the launch and to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Rock'n'Roll.

Louis said "It's a great honour for me to be involved with BMG and HMV to help promote Elvis Presley on special days such as this. As he is not with us to do it for himself, I am honoured to have been chosen to represent him on behalf of his record label. The award took me by surprise and is absolutely stunning, not to mention priceless ! , it will be treasured "

THE KING COMES TO DENMARK

The Aarup Festival, Denmark opened on the evening of Friday 18th June 2004. Louis Rockafella was flown over specially to open the events and the crowds went wild when Louis as Elvis entered the stage. Around 2000 people would be attending the event. For a couple of songs Louis surprised the crowds by coming off the stage and going on walkabout to meet the Danish people up close. People of all ages from small children upwards enjoyed the lively performances and would not let Louis leave without singing some more ! Three encores later Louis then circulated for photos and autographs before heading back to the hotel. LIVERPOOL 'ALL SHOOK UP' BY MEMPHIS TWINNING

Liverpool will twin with the American city of Memphis, Tennessee for 2004.
There'll be plenty more sightings of Elvis in Liverpool as the capital of pop teams up with the birthplace of rock and roll to celebrate 50 years of 'the Devil's music'. 2004 marks half a century since Elvis Presley cut his first record - 'That's All Right' - at the legendary Sun Studio on July 5th 1954.
Liverpool schoolboys, Lennon.J and McCartney.P were among the millions left 'all shook up' by the emergence of The King, as rock 'n' roll boomed from Memphis to the Mersey.
To celebrate the birth of rock 'n' roll, Liverpool will join in a year long celebration with Memphis.

The celebrations rocked 'n' rolled into Liverpool on the 16th December, when the two musical cities officially twinned for 2004.

The King himself, Elvis impersonator Louis Rockafella donned his "blue suede shoes" and took a Limousine ride to the 'Fingerprints of Elvis' exhibition at the Albert Dock to compare quiffs with the Leader of Liverpool City Council.

Council Leader, Councillor Mike Storey, said: "We are delighted to be playing a leading role in this landmark anniversary. Liverpool is the Capital of Pop with the most Number One records in the known universe. It is really exciting that we will now be teaming up with the birthplace of rock 'n' roll. 2004 will now mark 50 years of rock and roll, from Memphis to Mossley Hill."

Sue Woodward, Creative Director of Liverpool's Capital of Culture programme said: "Music is a major part of Liverpool's culture. Twinning with Memphis will further raise the City's profile and provides an opportunity for the people of Liverpool to find out more about our American cousins and vice versa."
